nan + josh’s wedding at the red lion inn, cohassett ma

Nan is so positive, so enthusiastic, so warm and funny that it literally bowls you over when you meet her. She and Josh planned their wedding “long-distance together”, with Nan at home in Boston and Josh overseas in Afghanistan serving in the Marine Corps. What they managed to do with all that distance between them was to create an epic party for all of their friends (most of which they’ve both known since childhood since Nan and Josh went to high school together) and family. The day had a tribute to Halloween (their favorite holiday) with a sprinkling of pumpkins, skulls, Day of the Dead touches, and costumes for the PhotoLounge. The rest of the decor had a fun, vintage flair and blended perfectly. We know it was hard for Nan and Josh to be apart while Josh was serving our country. We’re just so happy for them that they had they wedding of their dreams to kick-start their married life TOGETHER! Congratulations to a truly inspirational and deserving couple.

marion + scott’s wedding at castle hill newport, ri

Marion and Scott met on the beach, so it’s only fitting that they should have an elegant seaside wedding at Castle Hill in Newport. The incomparable Wendy Joblon of Wendy Joblon Events was on hand to make everything run as smooth as glass. Marion and Scott couldn’t be more perfectly matched. They are both absolutely hilarious. Marion keeps you on her toes with her quick wit and her funny expressions are endless. Scott and Marion adore being surrounded by their big, loud, fun, gang of friends. They are dedicated to their families. They are in short, a remarkable couple. We had some very cool weather that ranged from soft golden autumn light to romantic grey fog and made for some exciting snapping. We must acknowledge Stoneblossom who created the lovely romantic bouquets and lavish centerpieces. Marion is a teacher, and we got such a kick out of the drawings her students made for her wedding! We are so happy for Marion and Scott knowing that they are going to share a lifetime of good times and laughter.

barbara + bryan’s engagement session outside providence, ri

We instantly fell in love with Barbara and Bryan when we met with them about shooting their Newport wedding next summer. Barbara is one sassy girl and we like that! I’m pretty sure that if she was born in the Old West she’d be a gun slinger {and a really good looking one at that}! Since she can’t be a gunslinger she’ll have to resort to shooting from the hip. {We like that too}. Bryan is the Clyde to her Bonnie and though they don’t travel the country together robbing banks, something tells me they do get into their fair share of mischief. I have to give them both some props… Number one: they completely trusted us to choose their photo locations. After chatting with them a bit we had a pretty clear idea about what type of setting they’d fit best in. Number two: they totally brought the romance. I don’t think it was that hard considering they are crazy for each other, but on the other hand it was ten o’clock in the morning and they did have us looming over them while they tried to look “naturally romantical.” I especially want to point out how they totally nailed the laying on the tracks photo. Barbara joked she was going to tie Bryan down and wait for the train to come, but after we determined she was actually kidding and had a good laugh they were spot on with the shot. It’s a really hard shot to get right. We’re so proud of them! Next September they’ll have to trade in their cowboy boots for some more formal attire at their Belle Mer wedding but I am sure they’ll look just as good and we’ll have just as much fun. Can’t wait!

leslie + matt’s wedding at aldrich mansion, warwick ri

Do Leslie and Matt look vaguely familiar to you? That may be because they are channeling Mary and Matthew from one of my favorite shows of all time, Downton Abbey. I don’t think they meant to, but the resemblance is uncanny don’t you think? Maybe it’s just the grandness of Aldrich Mansion, or Leslie’s fabulous up-do {compliments of the talented ladies of New Leaf Salon}. I’m not sure, but any way you slice it, it’s vintage elegance!

Kachiu and Bill are in the running for “biggest snap fans”. They booked with us before they had their venue decided. Now that’s LOVE, and we love them for it! During the shoot Kachiu asked me {Mariah} when I was going to break out my Harry Potter wand because in her words, “It looks like we do something magical to the photos.” I wish I did have a wand, it certainly would make cooking dinner easier. But alas, I will have to rely on good lenses, nice light, and nice people like Kachiu and Bill who are in love to make photo magic.

People always say… “You’re so lucky, your job must be so much fun.” I’m sorry to say… they’re right. It is. It’s hard not to have a good time when you are surrounded by people like Jacqueline and Brian. YES, they were actually as happy as they look in these photos. There hasn’t been any happiness enhancement done to these pictures. Turns out, joy is not something you can photoshop in. Thank you so much J & B for sharing your day with us and for gracing us with your winning smiles! You made our job so easy and so… FUN!

It was a windy a sprinkly day, but we were determined to make this shoot happen! Erica grew up spending her summers in Narragansett so it was the perfect place to take some romantical photos of Eric and Erica. These guys are snuggle experts- love that! There was no shortage of cute beachy spots to put them in. We even found a couple of 26′s (their wedding date)… even if we did have to dig to unearth one of them!

Jennifer and Jamie are parents to Charlie. Charlie could not resist coming along for their engagement photo session in Providence. He may look like a big strong guy, but he’s really a total momma’s boy. If I am ever reincarnated as a dog, I’d like to come back as Jennifer and Jamie’s pet. Charlie seriously gets the royal treatment. Big thanks to Jen’s mom for dog wrangling and serving as a human coat rack! We can’t wait for Jen and Jamie’s wedding next October at Belle Mer! Go Pats! (ha-ha Jamie!)

louis and joy-lee’s wedding at the sullivan house, block island ri

Joy Lee and Louis wrapped up our last of six Block Island weddings this season. We can honestly say a wedding on block island never gets old. There’s just something about the Block. Every time we go we find a new nook for photos. In this case, Trish and Liz found 4 new nooks! Joy-Lee and Louis were so excited about their photos and willing to try anything the snappers asked. Thanks guys! That kind of trust is always photo rewarded! Joy-Lee and Louis are so in love it would be hard to take a bad photo of them no matter where they were standing. Louis I want you to know, there are quite a few photos of you {unsuccessfully} fighting back the tears as Joy Lee comes down the aisle. For the blog, I chose the one where you are not “ugly crying” although I personally I prefer that one. You can thank me later. I also want you to know that every bride secretly {and not so secretly} hopes her groom will cry when he sees her for the first time. YAY for emotive husbands!

If anyone has seen photos of our beloved Block Island after being slammed by Sandy, then you know a couple of these photo locations don’t even exist any more. Looks like we’ll be on the hunt for new nooks next season as the island repairs and reshapes itself.
